This week’s Folk Show slips out of the starting gate at a fair pace, backed by the driving rhythm of Newcastle Upon Tyne’s very own Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra before heading across the Atlantic for that rascal Loudon Wainwright III with a number from his new album I’d Rather Lead a Band (which we reviewed today). Todd Snider provides plenty of dry-wit prior to lighting the touchpaper with Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys. Things then ease down courtesy of the Muddy Basin Ramblers and the first of our Featured albums of the Month – Stables, with their title track Silhouettes (reviewed here).
We have new music from Folkatron with My Son John, taken from their new album Skiver and we continue to spoil you with new music including Kris Drever, Martin Simpson, The Teacups (incredible four-part harminies), O’Hooley & Tidow (with an achingly moving live number from Live at St George’s), Jacqui McShee & Kevin Dempsey and Diana Jones. And not forgetting our Artist of the Month, the wonderful Jenny Sturgeon with one of my personal favourites, The Plants, taken from her stunning new album The Living Mountain which we reviewed here. We have an interview with Jenny coming up soon so keep a lookout for that.
Enjoy!
